The first edition of the SenegalMauritania Economic Forum took place on September 30th and October 1st, 2024, at the Azalai Hotel in Dakar.
This unique event, centered on the theme “Economic Integration in the Era of Energy Transition: Contributions of the Senegalese-Mauritanian Private Sectors,” provided an opportunity to reflect and discuss the role of private sectors in the development of both countries. Topics of interest such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), energy, agriculture, and water management were on the agenda.
Amid a strategic gas partnership, discussions focused on how the private sectors could benefit from gas and oil exploitation dividends. Additionally, considering the significant potential around the Senegal River, it was proposed, similar to the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project, to promote large-scale integrated agricultural projects along this border area, co-developed by economic operators from both countries.
